Al Ula is a UNESCO World Heritage site located in the Medina Region of North-Western Saudi Arabia. For millennia Al Ula sat at the center of eastern and western trade, both economically and philosophically, as an important stop on the historic incense trade route. Al Ula exists today as a site of incredible historic importance, but with little global acknowledgement — until now. In December 2019 and February 2020 VICE will partner with the Royal Commission of AlUla to facilitate the launch of Azimuth - two 3-day festivals of art, music and food, at UNESCO World Heritage Site Al Ula, cradling the larger Winter at Tantora festival in an international context. The festival will be a celebration of Eastern and Western collaboration, headlined and curated by legendary French electronic music pioneer, Jean Michel Jarre and intermingled with the world’s most notable voices in Art, Music, and Food. This is intended to be a high-end, high taste, high aesthetic festival with a markedly different audience to the glut of pop festivals bursting onto the scene in Saudi in 2019 and 2020. This is therefore pitched at an exclusive, affluent audience (more details on demographics below) and is priced accordingly
